RENDEZ-VOUS WITH LIONEL MASSOL

 

A graduate of L'École des Gobelins, Lionel Massol began working at 21 as a production manager, then in post-production department. In 2015, he created Films Grand Huit with Pauline Seigland. In 7 years, they produced about thirty short films. One of their films won the César for Short Film Fictin in 2019 and, in 2022, two others won the César for Best Short Fiction Film and Best Short Documentary Film. One of their shorts was shortlisted at the Oscars.

Today, they guide directors towards feature films. Disco Boy by Giacomo Abbruzzese, won the Silver Bear at the 2023 Berlinale. Four other feature films are in post-production: Mi Bestia by Camila Beltrán, Rabia by Mareike Engelhardt, The Ghosts of Jonathan Millet and Mikado by Baya Kasmi. La Vie de château, a mini-animated series by Clémence Madeleine-Perdrillat and Nathaniel H'limi is currently in production. Lionel Massol was Berlinale Talents in 2018 and participated in EAVE Puentes and the Alpi Film Lab in 2021. He was an elected member of the SPI Steering Committee from 2018 to 2023. He is a member of the ACE and the European Film Academy.
