Emil Sana

COMPOSER

Composer Emil Sana is invited to the 27th edition of the Festival international Music & Cinema Marseille as part of the They’re Back program to present Becoming (Zhannat Alshanova), film for which he composed the score.

This program highlights artists who have taken part in initiatives developed by the Festival, such as the International Market for Film Music Composition or the Masterclass in Music Composition for Screen. While it underscores the evolution of their artistic journeys, it also strengthens the ties between the Festival and the creators.

Emil Sana is a half-French, half-Finnish composer, producer, and sound artist currently based between Finland, Belgium and France.

He has scored multiple international fiction and documentary feature films, such as Silent Legacy by Jussi Rastas and Jenni Kivistö and Becoming by Zhannat Alshanova, both premiering at the Locarno Film Festival in 2025. He also scored the drama thriller How to Shout, which received several nominations in the Jussi-Awards 2026.

He has composed the soundtracks to many award-winning short films featured at major international festivals and for which he has received several awards for the original music.

Keen on exploring creative limitations, inventive sonic palettes, and conceptual approaches to scoring, Sana continually seeks new composition methods and processes that make each project distinct. In addition to his work in film, he creates sound and music for a wide range of audiovisual works (games, sound-art installations…), and produces and writes for collaborative projects across genres—from art pop to jazz fusion and neoclassical.
