Composer Frédéric Vercheval is invited to the 27th edition of the Festival international Music & Cinema Marseille alongside director Olivier Masset-Depasse to revisit their collaboration on the film Duelles, presented as part of The Duets. This Off-Competition Program highlights enduring partnerships between directors and composers—faithful collaborations that, film after film, captivate the eye and resonate with the ear.
Born in Brussels, Frédéric Vercheval is a musician, composer, and arranger of film music. He began playing the keyboard at the age of 8 and has since composed the scores for numerous feature films. From 2011 to 2018, he taught film music analysis at the IAD. He is also the president of the Belgian Screen Composers Guild.
His score for Agnieszka Holland’s Green Border won the Magritte Award for Best Original Score in 2025. His soundtrack for Olivier Masset-Depasse’s Duelles received a World Soundtrack Award in 2019 and a Magritte Award for Best Original Score in 2020.
Frédéric Vercheval was nominated five times for the Magritte Award for Best Original Score: Diamant 13 by Gilles Béhat (2009), Krach by Fabrice Genestal (2010, featuring Gilles Lellouche and Michael Madsen), Not My Type by Lucas Belvaux (2014, featuring Emilie Dequenne), Melody by Bernard Bellefroid (2016, featuring Lucie Debay and Rachael Blake), and Chez Nous by Lucas Belvaux (2018, featuring Emilie Dequenne and André Dussollier).
