The SiRAR (Regional Aid Site for Film Creation) is a unique support initiative for first-time filmmakers and composers, offering two inseparable grants: one for the creation of a short film and the other for an original film score. The aim is to highlight the collaboration between the filmmaker and the composer. Méridiens & SATIS, the Cinema Department at Aix-Marseille University, established SiRAR to support emerging talents in the cinematic arts.

A Unique Initiative

The first prize offers two inseparable grants: the first one, endowed by the city of Aubagne and the Région Sud (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur), offers a young author-director a grant to help with the directing of their first short film, the other awarded by Méridiens in partnership with the Conservatoire National à Rayonnement Régional Pierre Barbizet, offers a young composer a grant to help with the composition of the original music for the winning film.

In addition to these two grants, the co-founders of SiRAR and their partners provide assistance:

  • The SATIS Department provides the pedagogical supervision of the film, in particular for the sound recording during the shooting, the image editing, the sound editing, the mixing and the recording of the original music.
  • The students of the SATIS Department of the University of Aix-Marseille in Aubagne constitute the shooting and post-production team.
  • Students from the Conservatoire National à Rayonnement Régional Pierre Barbizet perform the music for the film.
