Le film L'Étrangère by Gaya Jiji sera présenté à la 27e édition du Festival international Music & Cinema Marseille.
Selma fuit la Syrie en laissant derrière elle un fils de 6 ans et un mari disparu dans les geôles du régime. Arrivée à Bordeaux, elle fait la connaissance de Jérôme, un avocat qui va l’aider dans ses démarches pour obtenir le droit d’asile et retrouver son fils Rami. Leur histoire d’amour va tout remettre en question.
Selma flees Syria, leaving behind a 6-year-old son and a husband who has vanished into the regime’s prison system. Once arrived in Bordeaux following a dangerous journey, she works endless hours off the books, whilst beginning a new battle for the right to asylum and to bring her son Rami over from Syria. Selma soon makes the acquaintance of a lawyer called Jérôme, and their subsequent relationship calls everything into question…

Gaya Jiji est née en 1979 à Damas et vit aujourd’hui à Paris. Elle a obtenu son master en cinéma, spécialité réalisation et création, à Paris. Elle a ensuite réalisé plusieurs courts métrages qui ont été présentés dans des festivals à travers le monde. En 2016, elle a remporté le « Prix Women in Motion » de la Fondation Kering. Elle a écrit son premier long métrage après avoir fui la guerre en Syrie : My Favorite Fabric, présenté en avant-première au Festival de Cannes — Un Certain Regard en 2018. Elle a tourné son deuxième long métrage, L’Étrangère, à la fin de l’année 2024.
Gaya Jiji was born in Damascus in 1979 and now lives in Paris. She obtained her master’s degree in cinema, specializing in directing and creation, in Paris. She then directed several short films that were screened at festivals around the world. In 2016, she won the Kering Foundation’s “Women in Motion Award.” She wrote her first feature film after fleeing the war in Syria: My Favorite Fabric, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival—Un Certain Regard in 2018. She shot her second feature film, L’Étrangère, at the end of 2024.

Formé au Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, Valentin acquiert de solides bases qui lui permettent très rapidement de collaborer, entre autres, avec Pink Martini, Gérard Corbiau, et de signer la musique d’Avril et le monde truqué, long métrage nommé aux César et récompensé au festival d’Annecy 2015. Depuis, il essaie de rester le plus éclectique possible, en touchant à différents formats : longs métrages, séries, téléfilms, documentaires, danse, etc. Il est persuadé qu’il y a une place pour l’originalité, quel que ce soit le support. Valentin a été nommé au prix France Musique/Sacem 2016. Il a également reçu le prix de la meilleure musique au Festival de Lisbonne, le prix du meilleur jeune compositeur aux World Soundtrack Awards, et du meilleur compositeur Jeune Talent 2016 UCMF.
Trained at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, Valentin built a solid foundation that quickly allowed him to collaborate with artists such as Pink Martini and Gérard Corbiau, and to compose the score for Avril et le monde truqué, a feature film nominated for the César Awards and awarded at the Annecy Festival in 2015. Since then, he has sought to remain as eclectic as possible, working across various formats: feature films, series, TV movies, documentaries, dance, and more. He believes there is room for originality in any medium. Valentin was nominated for the 2016 France Musique/SACEM Award and has also received the Best Music Award at the Lisbon Festival, the Best Young Composer Award at the World Soundtrack Awards, and the Young Talent Best Composer Award 2016 from UCMF.
