Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache began their collaboration with their short film Les Petits Souliers (1999), selected at Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. In 2004, Gérard Depardieu joined Jean-Paul Rouve for their first feature film, Je préfère qu'on reste amis. For their second feature, they adapted their short film Ces Jours Heureux (2002), which became the critical and public success Nos Jours Heureux. They then expanded their filmography in 2009 with the social comedy Tellement Proches. In 2011, the worldwide phenomenon Intouchables (François Cluzet and Omar Sy), opened to over 19 million admissions in France and 32 million abroad. In 2017, Le Sens de la Fête, a choral comedy with an original cast led by Jean-Pierre Bacri, received 10 César nominations.
They returned in 2019 with Hors Normes (Vincent Cassel and Reda Kateb). The film received a standing ovation as Cannes Film Festival's "last screening", and also won the 2020 César des lycéens. They then signed 2 seasons of their first series, En Thérapie, broadcast on Arte (2021, 2022), and in 2022 launched their first TV show, Les Rencontres du Papotin, on France 2. On October 18, 2023, their latest film, Une Année Difficile (A Difficult Year), was released, starring Pio Marmaï, Noémie Merlant, Jonathan Cohen and Mathieu Amalric, among others.
