Emma Benestan

Director and screenwriter Emma Benestan is a member of the feature film competition jury at the 27th edition of the Festival international Music & Cinema Marseille.


Emma Benestan is a French-Algerian writer and director. Trained in film editing, she began her career working alongside Abdellatif Kechiche on Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) and Mektoub, My Love (2017), before fully dedicating herself to writing and directing. She has notably collaborated on the screenplays of Chien de la casse (2023), Haut les cœurs (2022), as well as the Arte series Terrain vague.

She then wrote and directed two feature films. Fragile (2021), a romantic comedy acclaimed by critics, screened at over 70 international festivals and enjoyed wide distribution, notably on Netflix. Her second film, Animale, a fantasy western, toured nearly 80 festivals worldwide, won around ten awards, and was sold in more than 70 territories.

She is currently developing the series Viriles (June Films) as well as a historical feature film produced by Gaumont.
