Kaouther Ben Hania

DIRECTOR - THE DUETS WITH AMINE BOUHAFA

We are thrilled to announce that the director Kaouther Ben Hania and the composer Amine Bouhafa will attend the 2023 edition of the MCM Festival as part of the "Duets" programme. The two artists first collaborated on the film Beauty and the Dogs, selected in Un Certain Regard In Cannes in 2017. Four years later, the duo teamed up again The Man Who Sold His Skin, nominated for the Oscar for Best International Film in 2021 and screened this year during the Festival.

Kaouther Ben Hania studied cinema in Tunis and Paris (the Fémis and the Sorbonne). She directed several short films and documentaries. Then her film Le Challat de Tunis opened the ACID section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 and was an international success. She then signed Zaineb does not like snow, a feature documentary selected  in 2016 for the official selection at the Locarno International Film Festival. It subsequently won the TANIT D'OR at the JCC of Carthage, the award for BEST DOC at the CINEMED festival in Montpellier then IDFA, HOTDOCS... In 2017, Beauty and the Dogs begins a prestigious international career, and is selected for the Cannes Film Festival 2017 in the category Un Certain Regard winning the award for best sound creation, then the Grand Prix des Lectrices ELLE. The Man Who Sold His Skin won the Best Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival, and was nominated for an Oscar.

Kaouther ben Hania was also a member of the jury in many festivals, including the Critics' Week in Cannes as president in 2022.
