Raphaël Imbert

At the age of 15, he discovers saxophone and learns to play by himself. He then enrolls in the Jazz class of the Marseille CNR. He founds the “Nine Spirit” in order to play the sacred music of Ellington, Coltrane or Ayler and to compose his own music. He is a member of the executive board of the National Jazz Orchestra between 2004 and 2007 and wins the 28th National Jazz Contest of la Défense in June 2005. Raphaël Imbert also composes music for films ad T.V, for Philippe Carrese and Isabelle Boni-Claverie. 

As a musician, teacher and researcher, Raphaël Imbert has been invited by many institutions, notably by the Columbia University (New York, USA). He joins Archie Shepp’s Attica Blues Big Band (Jazz à la Villette 2012) and Harmonia Mundi’s new label, “Jazz Village”, with which he releases Music is my Hope in 2018. The album wins the 2018 Victoire du Jazz award. He is selected for the IRCAM’s Residence of artistic research in 2018. In 2019, he composes the original soundtrack of the documentary film Péril sur la ville.

Cine-concert with Philippe Pujol

After Marseille adopted Philippe Pujol, he set up his camera in the poor neighborhood of Saint-Mauront, in the heart of the city, to make his first documentary. He associates Raphaël Imbert to his project, entrusting him with the original score.

Come and enjoy the encounter of the two authors through a screening and a live performance of the original score, composed and performed by Raphaël Imbert and his musicians : Pierre Fenichel (double bass), Thomas Weirich (guitars) et Timon Imbert (drums).
